Steam Setup

Steam is the digital distribution platform that delivers Unturned™ to your computer. Before you can write a single line of mod code, you need a Steam account, the Steam client installed on your machine, and a working library of games. This section walks you through every step of that preparation, beginning with creating an account and ending with launching a game for the first time.

57 Studios™ relies on Steam for two essential modding workflows. First, Steam is the only legitimate source of the Unturned game client and its accompanying SDK files. Second, Steam Workshop is the primary distribution channel for community-made mods, including the projects you will build as you progress through this knowledge base.
