Windows Path
The standard route for getting started with Unturned modding on Windows.
57 Studios™ has assembled this knowledge base as the definitive reference for Unturned™ mod developers. Every article is written for readers with no prior technical experience. Whether you are setting up your first development environment or seeking authoritative documentation on a specific workflow, you will find what you need here.
The knowledge base is divided into fourteen sections, each covering a discrete area of the Unturned modding pipeline, player setup flow, or server operations baseline. Articles within each section are arranged in a recommended reading order, with cross-links between sections to support both linear study and reference lookup.
The following flowchart visualizes the recommended onboarding decision tree. Most readers will follow one of the two highlighted paths from top to bottom.
| Section | Articles | Recommended for |
|---|---|---|
| Getting Started | 7 | Readers entirely new to personal computers |
| Steam Setup | 7 | First-time Steam users |
| Installing Unturned | 5 | New players preparing to mod |

| Pixel Art | 7 | Icon and texture creators |
| Unity Setup | 5 | Mod project authors |
| Blender Setup | 3 | 3D model creators |
| Notepad++ | 3 | Configuration file editors |
| macOS Modding Guide | 14 | Serious mod developers |

For best results, follow articles sequentially using the Next link at the bottom of each page. The reading order introduces concepts in dependency order: each article assumes only the knowledge from prior articles. Experienced developers seeking specific information can use the sidebar navigation to jump directly to any topic.
While Unturned itself runs on Windows, professional mod development overwhelmingly takes place on macOS, with Windows reserved for in-game testing inside a virtualized environment. New modders are encouraged to review the macOS Modding Guide early to evaluate whether to adopt this workflow before investing time in Windows-only tooling.
